Chelsea Beat Newcastle to Sign Brighton’s Joao Pedro for £50m
Chelsea are edging closer to completing the signing of Joao Pedro from Brighton in a deal worth over £50 million. The Brazilian forward is expected to immediately join the Blues squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea have beaten Newcastle in the race to secure Pedro’s signature. The 23-year-old is set to sign a long-term contract that will run until 2032.
Pedro is currently awaiting a medical before officially becoming part of Enzo Maresca’s squad. Once the final stages are completed, he will fly to the U.S. to link up with his new teammates.
His arrival will be a key boost to Chelsea’s attacking options, which already include Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap. The speed of the transfer process is crucial to ensure Pedro can quickly adapt to Maresca’s tactical system.
