Here We Go! Milos Kerkez Joins Liverpool
Liverpool have confirmed the signing of left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in a deal worth £40 million, pushing their total summer 2025 spending to over £200 million.
According to the Daily Mail, the 21-year-old becomes the latest major addition to the Reds’ squad after the arrivals of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for a combined £145.5 million, as well as goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and defender Armin Pecsi.
Pundits have described Liverpool’s transfer activity as a “statement of intent” from the reigning Premier League champions as they gear up to defend their crown in the upcoming season.
Kerkez, who impressed last season with 38 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth, contributing 2 goals and 6 assists, is regarded as one of the most promising young left-backs in Europe. He is seen as the long-term successor to Andy Robertson, who is now 31 and reportedly considering an exit from Anfield.
The Hungarian international's family revealed they turned down multiple offers to ensure a move to Liverpool, citing their trust in sporting director Richard Hughes, who originally signed Kerkez for Bournemouth from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 for £15.5 million.
“We only chose Liverpool, we didn’t consider any other club and we didn’t negotiate with anyone else,” said Kerkez’s father.
Kerkez will directly compete with club captain Andy Robertson for the left-back spot. However, reports from Spain suggest Atletico Madrid are closely monitoring Robertson’s situation, though no formal approach has been made.
The Scottish defender still has one year left on his contract and recently admitted that his future is uncertain:
“I can’t change my age, but I still have a lot to offer.”
In other moves, goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has been sold to Brentford for £18 million, with Mamardashvili, signed from Valencia, set to act as backup to Alisson Becker.
Meanwhile, young center-back Jarell Quansah is joining Bayer Leverkusen for £35 million in a deal that includes a buy-back clause — marking the third transfer between the two clubs this summer, following the Wirtz and Frimpong deals.
