Liverpool in Danger of Losing Konaté as Contract Talks Stall
Ibrahima Konaté Reportedly Rejects Contract Extension at Liverpool, Attracting Interest from European Giants
Ibrahima Konaté has reportedly turned down a new contract offer from Liverpool, sparking interest from several top European clubs.
The French defender’s current contract with Liverpool runs until the summer of 2026. The Reds have been in talks with the 26-year-old regarding an extension.
However, Konaté is said to be dissatisfied with the club’s proposal, which focuses more on performance-related bonuses rather than a significant increase in his base salary.
This situation poses a serious risk for Liverpool, as Konaté has already rejected multiple offers. His contract situation has now caught the attention of elite clubs, including Real Madrid.
Real Madrid continue to show strong ambition in this summer’s transfer market. After successfully signing Trent Alexander-Arnold, Los Blancos are now targeting another Liverpool player: Ibrahima Konaté.
With Konaté refusing Liverpool’s new deal, the race for the centre-back has become one of the most heated transfer sagas of the window.
Real Madrid have already signed two defenders this summer Dean Huijsen and Alexander-Arnold and now see Konaté as their next defensive priority.
While Madrid could choose to wait until next season and sign Konaté on a free transfer, they have reportedly shown good faith by offering a £25 million transfer fee. However, Liverpool consider that figure far too low.
Liverpool are still working to keep Konaté at Anfield and have submitted several improved wage proposals. The Frenchman played a key role in helping the Reds secure the Premier League title last season, making him well-deserving of a fair wage increase.
Losing Konaté on a free next year would be a major blow, especially after already watching Trent Alexander-Arnold leave for Madrid on a free transfer this summer.
