Striker Viktor Gyökeres has completed his move to Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon for an effective fee of £57.5 million.
Arsenal has just successfully signed striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon after weeks of tense negotiations.
The deal was initially estimated to cost The Gunners around £63.5 million, including £54.8 million upfront and £8.7 million in performance-based add-ons.
However, according to British media, the actual amount Arsenal had to pay was significantly lower. The Emirates side paid £50.5 million upfront, plus £7 million in additional fees, bringing the total cost to approximately £57.5 million.
The 26-year-old striker is one of the most impressive attackers in Europe during the 2024-2025 season, having scored 43 goals and provided 15 assists for Sporting.
His outstanding performances have attracted the attention of many top clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, or PSG... but Arsenal acted decisively and quickly to secure the deal.
Gyökeres has signed a five-year contract with Arsenal worth approximately £115,000 per week. He has agreed to take a pay cut of nearly £2 million per year to finalize the deal. The striker will wear the number 14 jersey, previously worn by legend Thierry Henry, at the Emirates Stadium.
This marks Arsenal's sixth signing of the 2025 summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, and Cristhian Mosquera.
Gyökeres' arrival is expected to help manager Mikel Arteta address the finishing issues that cost Arsenal their Premier League title challenge last season.
New signing Viktor Gyökeres has arrived in London and is expected to join Arsenal on their upcoming Asian tour, which includes a friendly match against Tottenham in Singapore on July 31.
With total spending exceeding £200 million, Arsenal is currently one of the biggest spenders in the 2025 summer transfer window.
