Diogo Jota: 1996–2025


Liverpool Football Club is deeply saddened to confirm the passing of our forward, Diogo Jota, who tragically died in Spain in the early hours of this morning, local time.

"The club has received the heartbreaking news that Diogo Jota, aged 28, has passed away following a traffic accident in Spain, along with his brother, Andre," read an official statement from Liverpool FC.

"Liverpool FC will not be making any further comment at this time and respectfully asks that the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates, and club staff be honoured as they come to terms with this profound and unimaginable loss," the statement continued.

"We will continue to offer our full support to those affected by this tragedy."

Cause of Death:

Diogo Jota lost his life alongside his younger brother, Andre Silva.

According to reports from local authorities, the accident was caused by a tire blowout while the vehicle was attempting to overtake another at approximately 12:30 a.m. local time.

"Preliminary information indicates that the vehicle, a Lamborghini, veered off the road after suffering a tire blowout during an overtaking maneuver," said a spokesperson for the Guardia Civil.

"The incident occurred at around 00:30 local time in the municipality of Cernadilla, in the province of Zamora," the spokesperson added.

"The vehicle caught fire, and both occupants tragically lost their lives at the scene."
