Maresca praises Estevao's ‘Great Talent’

Estêvão Willian

Scoring against Chelsea's future club, newcomer Estevao Willian was still praised by coach Enzo Maresca on a “perfect” night for the Blues at the FIFA Club World Cup.

In a dramatic Club World Cup quarterfinal, Chelsea won 2-1 against Palmeiras, but the focus was on one particularly special incident.

Estevao Willian, an 18-year-old winger recently signed by Chelsea for £29.1 million, shone brightly as he scored the only goal for Palmeiras against his future club.

The goal was created through a classy move, as he received the ball on the right side and fired a powerful shot from a narrow angle to equalize after Cole Palmer's opening goal.

Instead of feeling upset, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca praised the new signing. He shared:

"You can see that he is a very talented and great player. The only thing he needs to do now is adapt, as he comes from South America. We will help him, and there's no doubt he will become an important player for Chelsea."

“Perhaps it was a perfect night for us because we won and Estevao scored, so it's good for all of us.”

After the match, Estevao and Cole Palmer exchanged jerseys. Palmer also jokingly remarked:

“I told him we're happy he joined, but he didn't understand a single word I said.”

After the FIFA Club World Cup, Estevao Willian will officially move to the west London club.
